Introduction to Research Data Management (Section 1)

This is a 6-week series for graduate students introducing research data management. Students commit to the full series when they register online.


The lab will meet for 2.5 hours on the following Monday evenings:

This 6-week series provides an overview of research data management concepts. It covers good practices, tools, tips, and resources for effective management of digital data, including:

  • Data formatting for easy analysis.
  • File organization and naming conventions for identification.
  • Quality control for integrity.
  • Documentation and version control for tracking changes and roll-back.
  • Managing storage for security.
  • Back-up procedures for redundancy.
  • Policies for sharing and reuse.
  • Archiving and preservation for future accessibility.

The series is an introduction and has no prerequisites. Exercises and hands-on activities are key elements of the workshops, and active participation is expected.
