Join us for a crash course in GIS! In Spring 2017, the Geospatial Librarian will lead a cohort of 15 participants through five workshops.

Designed for the true beginner, the series will give you a foundation in geographic information systems and how you can apply it to your research and career.

Learn how to make print and web maps for your projects. Bring your curiosity and project ideas, and we'll provide the rest!

Participants will receive a receipt of completion for attending all five workshops.

1. Foundations of GIS - Jan 27, 2017

  •     Basic Principles of GIS
  •     GIS file formats
  •     ArcGIS Navigation

2. Finding and Importing Data - Feb 3, 2017

  •     Identifying Appropriate Data Sources
  •     Importing Coordinate Data
  •     Projections

3. Spatial Analysis - Feb 10, 2017

  •     Geoprocessing Tools
  •     Spatial & Attribute Joins

4. Data Management - Feb 17, 2017

  •     Metadata
  •     Working with Tabular Data
  •     Data Citations & Repositories

5. Cartography and Visualization - Feb 24, 2017

  •     How to make a map
  •     Building a web map

Registration is required. All members of the community are welcome to register, and no GIS experience is necessary.

This is a cohort series: registering for the series indicates that you will make every effort to attend all five sessions. Registering for this event will enroll you in all five sessions.
