Getting the Most Out of Google Scholar

Do you use Google Scholar? Want to learn how to use it more effectively?  This workshop will teach you how to get the most out of Google Scholar. No prior knowledge or use of Google Scholar is required.

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • discuss pros and cons of Google Scholar;

  • identify the search operators that work the best in Google Scholar;

  • describe and utilize the features of the results page;

  • create a search alert; and

  • personalize their settings.

Getting to the class:
This in-person class will meet at the Medical Sciences Library’s Education Center in College Station. Directions and parking for the Medical Sciences Library can be found here. To get to the Education Center, enter the library's main doors, go through the sliding glass doors to your right, then take an immediate right into the Education Center (a computer lab).

Using the computers for the class:
You will need to know your NetID and password to login to the computers. If you are unsure about your NetID/password, please arrive a few minutes early to ensure that you can login. If you do not remember your NetID/password, come early and ask at the library’s desk for a guest login.  You will need some sort of photo ID with you (driver’s license, passport, TAMU or HSC ID) in order to receive a guest login.
