PubMed Basics (in-person College Station)

PubMed provides free access to searching MEDLINE database, which contains millions of biomedical article citations. Searching PubMed through the links on the library’s website connects you to the library’s full-text articles.

By the end of the class, participants will be able to:

1. Summarize what PubMed is and how to access it.

2. Create a search using the connectors AND, OR.

3. Use Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) to construct a search.

4. Narrow the results by using filters like publication type, language, and age.

5. Set up a My NCBI account and save PubMed searches.

6. Utilize the “Send to” options to email or save citations.

Getting to the class:
This in-person class will meet at the Medical Sciences Library’s Education Center in College Station. Directions and parking for the Medical Sciences Library can be found here. To get to the Education Center, enter the library's main doors, go through the sliding glass doors to your right, then take an immediate right into the Education Center (a computer lab).

Using the computers for the class:
You will need to know your NetID and password to login to the computers. If you are unsure about your NetID/password, please arrive a few minutes early to ensure that you can login. If you do not remember your NetID/password, come early and ask at the library’s desk for a guest login.  You will need some sort of photo ID with you (driver’s license, passport, TAMU or HSC ID) in order to receive a guest login.
